What are Training schools?

Training schools and summer schools are one of the main capacity-building activities of the LILY project. They are designed to empower young scientists and practitioners, foster interdisciplinary knowledge exchange, and develop advanced skills for research and implementation of nature-based solutions (NbS) and health.

Summer schools and training programs are organised to provide structured learning, hands-on experience, and field trips focusing on designing, monitoring, and evaluating NbS for health outcomes under current and future environmental conditions. These schools bring together participants from different fields to encourage collective thinking, skill development, and transdisciplinary dialogue.

Training materials created for the summer schools are made publicly available through the LILY network and data platform, supporting broader dissemination and sustained capacity building.

Objectives covered by training schools include:

  • Advancing knowledge and practical skills in NbS-health frameworks, indicator development, vulnerability and inequality concepts, and novel data streams or analytical tools.
  • Facilitating direct knowledge transfer from leading experts to young researchers and practitioners.
  • Promoting cross-disciplinary and international collaboration through group projects, workshops, and network-building events.
